Saving Money and the Environment… Sounds Good

>

Here’s an interesting article about one of my favorite topics… saving money while saving the environment. The author points out that Dollar stores now carry a number of environmentally friendly products.

I will add the caution here that I added to the comments section of the article. It’s important to remember quality as one factor in buying products. There is no point in buying a dollar store product if it is going to wear out and need replacing long before an equivalent from a traditional store would. It doesn’t help the environment and it doesn’t help your wallet.

That being said, there are many products listed here that we probably don’t need to worry about as far as that goes.

Here’s one idea from the article.

Bioplastics are made from renewable sources such as vegetable oil or corn starch, as opposed to petroleum based plastics. I can buy a box of ten biodegradeable 20″ x 22″ plastic kitchen bags for $1. Compare that to XXXXXXXX brand that you’ll pay $5.27 for to get the same number of biodegradeable bags.
